Change the World by Changing Yourself

Its hard to change the people’s mind. Its hard to change the community to the way you want it to be. In order to change the world, start by Changing Yourself.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”

Bagaimana jika Anda merubah Dunia, tetapi tdak merubah diri Anda?

Radish Cake / Kuih Lobak at Jonker Walk, Malacca – Malaysia

So, during my trip to Malacca on 1st February 2015, since its Sunday, we purposely make it possible to visit Jonker Walk to enjoy the environment which we have been missing. This is our weekly hang out place while studying in Malacca during 1998 era. We used to cycle inside this street too, which is impossible nowadays cos its getting more crowded.

So, we have few targets when coming to Jonker Walk. One of it is this Radish Cake. I remember there is auntie who used to sell it. Perhaps now is replaced by her son, since the location and business machine is still similar.

This is located near the Geographer Cafe, right in the middle of Jonker Street. When I walked by, the cook is not around, all I see is this auntie cutting the radish cake using fishing line, and I just gave my order to her. Some girls passed by, wanted to order but not noticed and ignored by this auntie. So they both were looking at each other, looking at me as I Was standing right in front of the stall. Perhaps they wonder, wei? what we do now? How do we order? People ignore us lah! Eh but that guy is standing there waiting leh, maybe he is ordering too, lets just wait. Perhaps these are the conversations in their mind at that time. LOL.

Radish cake

So, after awhile, the guy came by, got order spoken by, and so we paid for our order first. Then I continue to watch from the back. This is the perfect spot as I can capture the cook, and also the customers. Would be perfect if I had a DSLR with me. But Oppo Find 7a is nice enough to bring this beautifully captured photos, although not that sharp.

Kuih lobak / Radish Cake, yummy. Had it at Jonker street, Malacca Malaysia. Had a chance to see the making from start. The first one to order, till the crowds came in. Stay tuned for the next photo when the radish cake is ready. #radish #cake #lobak #kuih Continue reading Radish Cake / Kuih Lobak at Jonker Walk, Malacca – Malaysia

Nando’s Chicken – Boneless Chicken Breast with Three Beans Salad

So, had a chance to visit Nando’s again on my visit to Malacca on 1st February 2015. Had lunch there by myself, had a very nice juicy chicken breast: butterfly-cut, flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken. I really enjoyed it, despite the three beans salad which is kinda too much. They should not differentiate the regular sides and fino sides for set meal. If you choose regular sides, you will get 2 sidelines, if Fino sides you only have 1 choice.

And I had this Cytrus Bliss for drink, which consists of Refreshing mint syrup, grapefruit juice and Sprite coupled with the ice cubes and fresh mint leaves. So refreshing, especially after walking through the hot sun that afternoon. Perfect companion.

Till the next post. I think I gonna make this a food blog soon.

Build Upon Strengths, and Weaknesses Will Gradually Take Care of Themselves

At times, I Came to see the weaknesses in my business, in me, and also in my staffs; including everyone within my visibility. I tried and tried to overcome it and fix them, but there are no results. Some people say: Change yourself before you change others, the one need changes is you. You can’t change the world.

But then, everytime I look deeper into the problems, it gets harder and has no enlightment.

And so one day I came to think of this, Why would you bother with all the weaknesses, problems that are from the inside of the people? Think from this perspective instead: What can they deliver for you? What are their strenghts that you can derived from, take full advantage from, to reach your goal and target?

Perhaps this way, we can focus on growing up better and faster. Sometimes when thinking about growing up, I always thought of getting rid of all the bad habits, bad attitude, all the lacking of these people in order to move on. But seems it is not the way.

I will try injecting more positive attitude, more positive ideas, and focus on our strengths. Hopefully in 2015 we can excel better and improve way way further than the pasts.

Just like the quotes at top of this article: “Build Upon Strengths, and Weaknesses Will Gradually Take Care of Themselves”.

Just believe it, and Act upon it. For better 2015.

Short Updates

Howdy, I guess this blog has become more boring and less frequent. Shall try to find something good to fill up and be useful, since I dropped blog and moved on with this.

Well this year, I managed to leave my seat and go for KOMISI 3rd Anniversary in Jakarta, and its my first visit to Jakarta again since 4 years back in 2010 during Toshiba’s 50th Anniversary at Kempinsky Hotel Indonesia. Two years of KOMISI’s anniversary was missed since I didn’t dare to make a move. This year, I feel the strong pull to move me out of this comfort zone.

So finally I made my move by purchasing flight ticket way ahead, departed and earned the experience that is priceless and of course the friendship from all over Indonesia that is not easy to get just by sitting down in your hometown. And afterall, I get to see Indonesia in different perspectives. All this while, I learn that there are still plenty of illmanered person in my town, and when I go out of this province, arrived in another island, I see different way of people behaving and living. It seems like everyone was focussed at their work, their doings and manners in order to survive. But perhaps that is just another perspective from me, and it might be different with people from Jakarta.

As what the proverb says, the grass is always greener on the other side. Enough of the whinings, I should take things easier, more positively and then I can move on in a better way. My mind has told me to act positively, but the mouth and body is still not listening fully. Gotta practice more, clear all the negative thinking, learn to accept things in positive manner, and see from better prospectives.

Afterall, there are still lots of things to be done in my life. Success is never enough when there are better things than it. Good is never be enough when Better is still posible.

You Can’t Blame the Environment and the Community

I love Tuesday. Why? Because on Tuesday, I get to watch my weekly Yowamushi Pedal anime new release, and 7-8am we got Smart Talk by James Gwee at Radio SmartFM Jakarta. Start the day with great motivation, add some entertainment in middle, and finish off all the tasks by end of the day.

Yesternite, we watched a Singapore Movie, called We Not Naughty. Its about family, school and life full of angers and violence. But in the end it tells us what is the lessons to be learn from that movie. At time it get me frustrated and anxious. But in the end, lessons learnt.

One thing I still remember that is being said by the teacher to two of his students who were about to indulge in gangster’s jobs. These two students were not being cared well by their parents and family, and they were always looked down upon. So, the phrase for them is: You cant blame the community, the environment, your parents and your school for what you have become. If you do wrong things and get jailed, can your parents replace you? Can your community replace you? No. Its all depends on you, what you do and how you can do to be better for yourself. Its about how you focus on your journey, rather than the surroundings, about how you adjust.

Afterall, my life is kinda upside down lately eversince the holiday. I once read today online that if you are angry very often, you will get bad symptomps to your health such as gastric, anxious feeling, every little small nuinsance will get you mad, and even heart attack? Well of course I should stop getting angry and not getting heart attack. Afterall this anger is something building up over time. We never know when it will strike.

So, what I should do now is ADJUST, Get AWAY and FOCUS on my life, family and career.

Some Updates

Well, this blog has been abandoned for quite sometimes. Lots of things of course has been through. Busy with almost everything. Actually we will always be busy in this life, its just how we manage our time. There is always time for something if we wish for.

At this moment, I wish I have another long break from all this problem. Although I have just finished my holiday which is not fully fun, but I just glad I had it, now when I am back to this town and handling the business again, I have to face all sorts of problems. Incompetent staffs, technicians, well I just never had the time to train and lead them to do things right and better. Sometimes we just wish they are wilingly learn and find out things for themselves. Dont just wait and being spoon fed. Afterall this is a business environment; you have to be aware and equipped all the time.

I am learning the law of attraction here, trying to understand it deeper. It feels really nice when you achieve things when you are on high mood and feel energetic. But when I am down, faced with continuous pressures and problems, I will loose my cool and the hold on the positive mindset. Trying very hard to stay positive, trying to get rid of the negative thinking and so the magnet to bad things will be gone. And I can pull for the better again. ARghhhh practice makes perfect, I hope before this year ends, I can make all my dreams come true. All the resolutions to be fulfilled.

Afterall, I can’t rant too much, as these problems resulted from myself. I have to look into myself to find the problem, and fix it, so that my surroundings will be better and move on like how I wanted it to be. Cheers.

The Way of Selling – Xiao Mi

Well, since I wrote this article in Bahasa Indonesia for a community mailing list, we just let it be as that. Will find time to post more in English.

Hari pertama, sold out.

Too Many Public Holiday and Its Effect

Well, what a week. With two public holiday on alternating day, one on Tuesday, and another one on Thursday. The impact? The town felt so peaceful, not so crowded, business is less crowded, but entertainment and sports centers are filled with people.

Not many sales through out these three days, but its nearing end of the month, salary are coming into customer’s pocket soon. Its time to do some fast selling, close as many deals possible, and definitely must get as many WOWs as possible. Just read an e-book I got yesterday called: wow Selling by Hermawan Kertaja. Not bad, we have to get customer’s satisfaction up to WOW level to get more market share and so on. Gotta finish the book soon, and continue to Wow Marketing which I had bought the paperback last week from Gramedia Pekanbaru.

Well, as its public holiday, of course the mood is in holiday as well, but too bad we can’t go for holiday yet. Apart from the 2 days 1 night trip to Pekanbaru last week that is truly tiring. I have lots in mind to write down, but if I write it down simply, then it will be a messy article with lots of random thoughts and ideas. Time to read and write always hard to allocate, time to play always easy to have. That’s reality that most of us prefer. But whether you like it or not, if you want to succeed in life, spend sometimes reading, talking to experienced people, gain as many experience and knowledge possible. And lastly, put those ideas into actions.

I gonna make sure I get these ideas last: Law of Attractions, WOW selling, And most important thing is FOCUS.

Self Service / Recovery

I have been wondering, for many times, many experiences eversince I am back to this town in Indonesia. Is it the culture that really hard to change that makes some of the people are uncivilized and always wanted to be treated like a King?

Phrase of Customers is always a king never be always true, and not at every conditions. If we have lived overseas, or at least in a metropolitan where the growth is fast, people need to move fast, need to be discipline and survive by their own, we could understand and behave the way it should be. Self service is found in developed country a lot. How about Indonesia? I’ve been wondering if places like Jakarta, or other metropolitan cities, will the people do for themselves in order to recover or fulfil their needs?

I have a case here, which is not the first time, but plenty of the same I have been through. That is the local mindset that is totally wrong and outdated. They always demand their service is like a king.

Here is the situation: Ms. A purchase a tablet/smartphone/notebook or any electrical appliances that have 1 year warranty. That covers the hardware fault only. So, one day, anytime, let say after 6 months of usage, the particular device decided to be dead without any symptomps. Well, it seems to be manufacturing fault and covered under warranty. So we process the warranty. Problem is, we never be able to make sure how long does it take for the warranty claim to be done. For some people who never experience warranty claim before, they will demand immediate recovery. I want it now! 1 day? 1 week? and for some they can’t take it if it is up to a month or more.

There are many conditions to consider, and afterall we only able to help by sending it to the service center, and follow them up. And its depending on the service center’s ability to work every case out, and how fast they work. So, being a customer, some not willing at all to know what is going on behind that take it so long. All they want to know is what is your responsibility as the seller? They demand something more, like give a spare unit, or perhaps better change a new one for them immediately. Of course these are out of mind and at some point, and some circumstances, lending a spare unit is possible if you have already allocated some fund for it.

But for most of seller, we are not able to do so. And so what? Your phone is now spoilt and under warranty claim. You can’t work, or do your online sale. And for me myself, if I am met with such conditions, I will look for other alternatives my own. Put some effort to recovery what I have lost in work, and how can I proceed with my work and online business that rely on that particular device. Either I lend from a friend or relatives, spouse or parents? Or get a new one that cost slightly cheaper for a backup? You are doing business anyway, wouldn’t you think of backup?

No! That’s the reality here, they wouldn’t think of any self recovery at all. All they want is some expectation from you as the seller, to come up with solutions as good as possible, and as beneficial for them. So, I have to come up with some solutions, that of course win-win situation where I did not loose any funding, and they have their choices. You take it or leave it and wait for the claim to be done. Or you should actually REALLY come up with your own solution as you should know better your surroundings, your financial status, and how important that business is for you.

Sad but true! I hope it is not the same everywhere in Indonesia, and not the same for every customers out there. I have met one who have had only 1 laptops, and its spoilt. Need for warranty claim, but he wants to work! So? How am I responsible for your work? I am responsible to help you process the warranty claim as promised during the sales. And I am not responsible for any data, any loss caused by any fault to the device. Either you loose your job, loose your business, loose your data, or whatever. Grow up already! Its 2014, civilization is over, its Civilized now. Even the country is DEVELOPING country, not under-developed.

Too much nagging, too much unethical angers from the customers side, too much putting every responsibilities to us, too much of everything. Well, we tried for excellent customer service, excellent service recovery, but if all the demand is just self beneficial oriented, we are not able to do so. We are responsible for the goods we sell, we are not responsible for the impacts of that goods to your life or your work. I hate this town!

People said Singaporeans complaint alot, they want excellent service, well, yeah, but not to this extend. Some do actually, but I rarely met such kind. Mostly are understanding and able to think logically and reasonably. That’s from my experience with technical support job previously. I would appreciate if some of you who read this, would be able to share your thoughts over this.

Last but not least, anarchist acts are just everywhere in Indonesia. I’ve been wondering whether it is a safe country to live in. Wonder….
